(workshop agenda ») Workshop on Advanced Photon Sources
(June 3rd - 4th 2008)
Complementing the five workshops that will address the key science drivers for a possible New Light Source (NLS) Facility, the Workshop on Advanced Photon Sources will focus on the technological capabilities and limitations of both the conventional laser and accelerator based light sources on which it may be based.
What can, and can’t, be achieved with laser sources? What are the advantages, and disadvantages, of normal and superconducting linac technologies? What are the advantages, and disadvantages, of the different FEL seeding schemes? What tunability is possible? Are attosecond pulse lengths achievable, and useable, in practice? These are some of the important issues that will be discussed and which will help guide the definition of a future New Light Source.
The workshop will be held on Tuesday 3rd June from 09:15 to 18:30, and Wednesday 4th June from 09:00 to 13:00. The progr
amme will include a number of presentations by prominent invited speakers, as well as discussion periods. Attendees are welcome to prepare a slide or two to contribute to the discussion, however for practical reasons this should be arranged in advance.
